FITT - Establishing the Exercise Prescriptions and Amount of Overload
Exercise programs are established to control the amount of overload that is presented. There are four factors that affect the total overload of an exercise program. These factors include: frequency, intensity, time and type of exercise. Combined, these factors are sometimes referred to as the exercise prescription. We will refer to these factors together as the FITT principle. Each of these factors can be manipulated to help individuals achieve their desired goals.
F- Frequency: number of sessions per week
I - Intensity: difficulty of exercise
T- Time: duration of exercise
T- Type; mode of exercise (weights, machines, running, biking, etc.)
