Hello everyone.. I'm still intrigued by this very old debate, which is really healthy butter or margarine?! What do you usually prefer, or do you not care at all?

I prefer butter but then I am not really concern about what is a more healthy option since I don't eat them regularly. Always remember that all foods contains nutrients that our body needs. It is in the amount of intake that makes the situation worst. Butter and Margarine is good and bad both ways but the key is control of the amount you intake.

margarine is healthier than butter bec. it is made from milk, usually cows' milk so, like other animal products, butter contains satured fat which is not good for our body.

on the other hand margarine is made from poly-unsaturated vegetable oils, an example of which is corn oil. vegetable oils don't contain any saturated fats unlike animal products.

Well I too, always use butter for cooking. I think the food tastes even better when I'm using it!

i totally agree with you 5laura, butter kinda brings out the flavor of food and it smells nice too. i really don't have any idea about saturated fat or whatever they call it, no offense james_86...

They are both healthy and needed by our body to produce energy. But they could be very dangerous when used in wrong proportions. You don't have to worry if you eat both of these. You should only keep in mind that you have to control the intake and eat only what you need no more no less.

Hi Carljohn... I don't really care whether margarine or butter... basically what is available in the kitchen is what I will use for cooking or for my food. I don't think that there will be a great difference between the two.

i use country crock, it has no cholesterol and trans fat. It's a much better alternative to margarine.

Make sure that whatever spread you use is non hydrogenated. The name brand that I use is smart Balance.
