Exercise - The Key to Good Health What If you could take a pill everyday that would improve your health? Well, it doesnít exist in pill form but, it has been proven that moderate amounts of daily exercise can improve your health and quality of life.

A Surgeon Generalís report on physical activity has concluded that moderate exercise such as a 30-minute brisk walk or 30 minutes of raking leaves each day can improve your health and quality of life. Moreover, it was found that more health benefits can be gained through greater amounts of physical activity. Therefore, if you exercise regularly, you will reap additional health benefits by exercising more.

The report revealed that the exercise you do does not have to be vigorous in order for you to gain health benefits. It can be simple activities such as gardening and doing yard work. The key is to do some sort of physical activity each day for at least 30 minutes. It is also found out that exercising in short batches such as 10 minutes three times a day proved to be beneficial to your health as well exercising 30 minutes all at once.

There are many health benefits of daily physical activity. Listed below are a few of the major ones:
  • Reduced risk of chronic diseases
    Engaging in regular physical activity reduces your risk of premature mortality due to coronary heart disease, hypertension, colon cancer, and diabetes. These are some of the leading causes of death and disability in the United States.

  • Strengthens your heart and lungs
    Exercise helps you to circulate oxygen and nutrients throughout your body more efficiently. This means that your heart and lungs donít have to work as hard to sustain your energy level.

  • Helps you to manage your weight
    Physical activity burns calories. Thus, the more you exercise, the more calories you burn and the easier it is to keep your weight under control.

  • Improves your mood
    Exercise stimulates various chemicals in your brain that make you feel happier and more relaxed after you workout. Also, you look better and feel better about yourself when you exercise regularly.

  • Makes everyday activities easier to do.
    Regular physical activity increases the strength of your muscles and bones. Thus, exercise makes everyday activities easier to perform.

As mentioned earlier, the physical activity you do does not have to be strenuous in order for you to improve your health and quality of life. Consistency is key, so start being active and take your daily dose of physical activity and see how much better you feel.
