Muscle Hypertrophy
Muscle Hypertrophy or Muscle Fiber Hypertrophy refers to the increase in the size of a person's muscles. There are several factors that make this happen aside from the usual Resistance Training. Factors such as age and nutrition also come into play in this situation.
The most common factors that affect Muscle Hypertrophy are the following:
- Strength Training - This is one of the common ways of increasing one's muscle size. The rule of thumb here is that the heavier the object that a person lifts, the stronger the muscles that do the lifting become.
- Age - People are more likely to grow their muscles at a certain age than other stages of their lives. For men, the muscles grow exponentially during puberty. This natural process slows down some time during the late teens.
- Gender - Men can grow their muscles more compared to women because of the men's higher content of testosterone.
- Nutrition - Those who want to increase their muscle mass have high-protein diets.
Resistance Training is the most surefire way of increasing one's muscle size at any age. This type of Fitness training involves a certain kind of resistance like a heavy weight or a person’s own body weight. The resistance created by weights help in the increase of muscle size.
The muscle's size increases when one undergoes Resistance Training because by lifting a heavy weight, the muscles are broken up. When this happens, the body tries to counter this by creating more muscle fibers than before to prevent muscles from breaking up again with the same type of activity.
