Fear of Pain Keeps Aussies from Doing Exercise
MONDAY, 28 AUGUST 2006
For Australians, the expression, "no pain, no gain," keeps them from doing exercise and keeping healthy. The website tvnz.co.nz has made a report on a poll which found that 60% of Australians stay away from doing exercise because of the fear of pain.
The report was based on a survey done by Sports Medicine Australia and Pfizer Australia Health Report. The respondents were composed of 1,405 Australians aged 18 and above.
The survey also found out that as much as 3/4 of parents who joined the poll were concerned about their children playing contact sports. That is why 10% of the parents prevented a child from playing a sport because of their fear of the child getting injured.
Aside from the fear of pain, being uninterested and not having enough time are also the factors why the respondents stay away from exercise, the same survey said.
