Shape Up and be Healthy
FRIDAY, 25 AUGUST 2006
Most people already know that doing exercise has a lot of health benefits aside from keeping a person's body trim. But as a sort of reminder to a world that's increasingly getting obese, Amy Norton of Reuters Health wrote an article on the benefits of shaping up.
In her article that was posted at the website www.medlineplus.gov, Norton said that exercise can help reduce the size of fat cells in the waist. Fat cells in the abdominal area are linked to the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
While others merely resort to dieting to shed off excess weight, the article said that it should also be coupled with exercise. Norton referred to a study conducted by the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in North Carolina wherein two groups of women followed a particular regimen. One group stuck with dieting alone while the other combined dieting with exercise. The latter group showed a decrease in the size of abdominal fat cells while the former one showed no change.
